Art school, or birthdays, are making this one cynical

From this week:

1. Speaking to art stars like they are present.

Bruce Nauman’s series of videos that show him stomping about his studio from various vantage points is , at its core, an exploration of how things become art. Duchamp may deserve a holler, but Nauman is shifting the focus to art’s syntactic role in the logic of our language- all while we imagine him sharing a secret look with Absurdism. The statement is, “Art is made in studios. Therefore, if something is made in a studio, it’s art”.

Just remember folks: studios also have toilets and sometimes that shit’s been done.

To an Art 21 documentary, I whispered “No. That’s egomania.”

2. The Cheese Monkeys by Chip Kidd is an excellent read for nothing less than a brilliant take on fringe art students. The ones who aren’t featured on art and design blogs before they graduate Pratt. A graduating senior, this under-the-radar kid, has no interests to speak of that might direct him to a college major. He does, however, have a great disdain for art. He decides on trying on a Studio Arts major when he figures no other institution would have greater disdain than an art program added as a side not to a school in the public upper educations system.

3. I have not had a creative fire in 5 months.
